Beautiful. Damn hard. Increasingly useful.

Okay, because I can't resist a challenge, ten things I've done that you probably haven't:

Work and school
1) Written to the alumni newsletter for my extremely prestigious high school, declaring proudly that I was a three-time college dropout. As I recall, they published it.
2) Become a medical journalist without a college degree.
3) Edited six hundred book reviews in eight months.

Love and marriage
4) Fallen in love at an orgy.
5) Taken extensive measures to ensure that the officiant at my wedding was not legally permitted to solemnize marriages in my city and state, and received a marriage certificate with a footnote stating clearly that it is not in any way legally binding.

Activism
6) Had my mother write me an excuse note so I could skip high school to attend an anti-war protest.
7) While the responsible adult in charge of a gaggle of 13-year-old girls, led an in-depth discussion of BDSM.

Brushes with fame
8) Introduced my mother to Benoit Mandelbrot.
9) Sung backup for Mandy Patinkin.
10) Been told that the guys who did the Budweiser "Wassuuuuup" commercials saw a near-naked picture of me and thought I was really hot.

Most of the "ten things" I've seen fall into these categories. The only one I'm missing is daring stunts, mostly because I haven't really done any. Skydiving doesn't count, in this crowd. I'm particularly impressed by the number of people who've managed to get themselves locked into places like sports stadiums and the Sistene Chapel.

After some thought I left out all the stuff that I’m kind of embarrassed about, but there’s plenty of material for "Ten Things I've Done That You Probably Haven't (Because You're Smarter, Nicer, and More Professional Than I Was at the Time)".

How about you?

(Hm. Is this a second wind? *yawn* No, probably not. Okay, really off to bed now.)

Do I mention that I have an FBI record for allegedly selling government secrets to the Daleks?

7) While the responsible adult in charge of a gaggle of 13-year-old girls, led an in-depth discussion of BDSM.

Ahh to be a fly on the wall for that one.

Reminds me of a 2-3 hour tutorial I heard from a female friend at the Pride parade in NYC a bunch of years ago. It was a 101 of how to have lesbian sex, and I could tell at least 2 of the guys listening were taking notes and at least one of the virginal lesbians looked absolutely star-struck. A good memory and a fun time.

4) Fallen in love at an orgy.

i have done this. :)

6) Had my mother write me an excuse note so I could skip high school to attend an anti-war protest.

i have played the mom on this one...only he was in fifth grade rather than high school.

7) While the responsible adult in charge of a gaggle of 13-year-old girls, led an in-depth discussion of BDSM.

similar things happen to me pretty often as i have a lot of fairly young friends and i'm sort of known for being very open about all things sexual.

9) Sung backup for Mandy Patinkin.

envy.

The only thing I can think of so far for myself is standing in a thong in public while people painted my entire body green. For money. And then I had to walk home.

6) Had my mother write me an excuse note so I could skip high school to attend an anti-war protest. I am fairly sure I did this in middle school. But then, I am younger than you.

I made sure that the officiant at my wedding was not legally permitted to solemnize marriages, too, but for different reasons than yours. We did get legal as well as religiously married, but I wanted to ensure that those were separate events, and so, our marriage certificate was signed by a different person, who is legally licensed to sign but is not of my religion.

Oh, I just remembered that I took my mother and her friend to a women's dance club in Bangkok where you pay cute boys to dance with you. They were in their mid seventies and had a blast. I think that's pretty strange. At first they were a bit uptight but at the end they danced a lot and wanted to have the same club in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
